Bed bug identification service

We can even identify broken specimens as long as the abdomen or head & thorax are intact. Send your photos or mail your insect specimens to us, and we will identify bed bugs in them. Many insects and other invertebrates are mistaken with bed bugs, and people sometimes end up paying for unnecessary bed bug treatments. Bed bug treatment can cost anywhere from $700 to $5,000, depending on the level of infestation and the size of your home.

Many companies charge between $200-$600 per room for bed bug treatments. With our identification service, a professional pest control expert will identify suspected bed bugs in your photos or in your specimens and may save you hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars and a lot of your precious time. Many of our customers are happy to know that their suspected bugs were actually not bed bugs. However, no one wants to get bitten by bed bugs or end up with a large reproducing bed bug infestation in their home. The sooner you identify the bugs, the faster you can take care of them and prevent more skin rashes, eczema, sleeplessness (insomnia), anxiety, and sometimes embarrassment (you shouldn’t, though). Bed bugs are under- or over-diagnosed depending on the situation. To read more about bed bug signs and how to identify them, please read our bed bug identification guide here. IMPORTANT: Before ordering, please read our service agreement details in the description below.

Send your suspected bed bug images to: info at pomerix.com (replace ‘at’ with @)

By purchasing this service, you will be able to submit photos or insect specimens (see mailing instructions below) containing suspected bed bugs to us and have them identified by our pest control experts. Based on your photos/specimens, we will provide accurate bed bug identification and send you the results. Before purchasing, please read the details of our service carefully:

  • After purchase, please send (attach) your photos to our email: info at pomerix.com (replace ‘at’ with @). For sending real insect specimens, please see our mailing instructions on the bottom of this page.
  • This service is for identifying bed bugs only. If you need to identify other pests (e.g. mites, other insects, rodents, etc.), please find the right product and purchase it on our website.
  • Our identification service report will answer the following question: “Is the critter in the photo/sample a bed bug?”. The answer will be “Yes”, “No”, or “More information needed”. We will not provide any identification of non-bed bugs. However, if possible, we mightcomment on the general group to which those bugs belong to such as “Mites”, “beetles”, “stink bugs”, “carpet beetles”, etc.
  • We will respond to you with an initial answer within the time frame mentioned above (regular vs. expedited) from the day we receive your order and photos. For specimen identification, the time frame is calculated from the day we receive you specimens. Weekends and holidays will delay our service and are not considered as business days. Please contact us if you need expedited service to make sure you will get the result in time.
  • Photo/Specimen quality: Accurate identification of bed bugs depends on the quality of your photos or your mailed specimens. If your photos have a low quality (e.g., underexposed, overexposed, blurred, or too small, etc.), we won’t be able to identify your bugs, and you need to send us additional photos. If you can’t provide additional photos before the expiration date, your purchase will expire and you would need to repurchase our service. See Purchase expiration time Ofcourse, we will do our best to help you and keep you happy.
  • Photo copyright: Pomerix.com reserves the right to store and reuse your submitted photos/specimens anonymously (without photo/collector credits) for educational and marketing purposes.
  • Photo/specimen limits: Depending on the purchased package, we will identify up to a specified number of photos/specimens. Extra photos/specimens beyond the package limit will be ignored unless you ask us to examine them and pay appropriate additional fees.
  • Purchase expiration: Your payment is valid for 2 weeks from the date of the purchase. Afterward, your purchase will expire, and you are required to repurchase the service to keep using our bed bug identification services.

Specimen submission

We accept specimen shipments from customers. Before purchasing this service and mailing the specimens, please read the following carefully:

  • Please do not mail live specimens! All the insects must be dead before shipping. (How? see below)
  • Please, do not send us human body fluids or human debris.
  • Collect 1 or several preferably undamaged lookalike specimens.
  • Any live insect should be placed in an airtight (e.g. Ziplock) bag and placed in the freezer for a minimum of 24 hours. This ensures that the insect is dead and will not disperse to new places during and after shipping. If the insect specimen is already dead, you don’t need to put it in a freezer.
  • After killing the insect using the method discussed above, place the bagged insect in a small card box or padded envelope. Place padding materials in the box to prevent the specimen from getting crushed or disintegrated.
  • Crushed specimens are much harder to identify. We do not guarantee successful identification of crushed specimens. If a specimen is already squashed, include all the fragments as they may help with the identification.
  • Send the package to the following address:
    • Pomerix Pest Solutions
    • 6185 Magnolia Ave #201, Riverside, CA 92506
  • Please let us know about any new shipment by sending an email to: info at pomerix.com. If you have a tracking number, please share it with us so that we can track your package and pick it up ASAP.
  • We will respond to you in the timeline described above when we get your specimen(s).

Bat bug identification service

Bat bugs look very similar to bed bugs. It is very easy to confuse the two especially by non-professionals. Bat bugs have a different biology and host preference than bed bugs. If a pest control technician misidentifies a bat bug as a bed bug, you may not be able to get rid of the bat bug infestation and all the bites and itchiness completely. Then your home/office may get reinvaded by these blood-sucking pests. Send your photos or mail your insect specimens to us, and we will identify bat bugs or bed bugs in them.
